DOUBLE-SIDED
Jamie Felton & Lauren Sanders
March 7, 2015
DOUBLE-SIDED, a duel show exhibiting artists Jamie Felton and Lauren Sanders, explores the concept of the grid through the disruption and manipulation of imagery and material. In constructing space as compartmentalized sections or moments, dimensionality is organized in accordance with a syntax informed by the practice of painting. Both artists consider the objectness of the flat plane, either through rendering it in three-dimensions or through the conceptualizing of it as living thing, creating different associations for ways of thinking of organization and medium hierarchies.
Jamie Felton (b. 1986) is a recent participant in the Skowhegan Residency in Maine, and holds an MFA degree from The Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, PA in 2013. Felton currently lives and works in Los Angeles, and has shown in solo and in group shows in Philadelphia, PA, Baltimore, MD, Brooklyn, NY, and Rome, Italy.
Lauren Sanders (b. 1993) is a current BFA candidate for UT Knoxville, who lives and works in Knoxville, TN. She has shown in both solo and group shows in spaces in Knoxville such as Gallery 1010, Grainger Gallery, and Ivan Racheff House and has participated in the Summer program at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
